Ford, GM, And Stellantis Bracing Themselves For A Potential UAW Strike

The United Auto Workers (UAW) warned Ford, General Motors, and Stellantis of a potential strike within a few days. According to the UAW, they can avoid the strike by reaching new contract agreements.

However, the auto dealerships are bracing themselves for any impact of the strike. They are waiting for what will happen if the production lines come to a stop.

Scott Kunes, the COO of Kunes Auto Group, stated that they have been preparing for a strike ?for a little while now.? Kunes Auto Group has more than forty dealerships in the Midwest, including Ford, Stellantis, and General Motors.

The negotiations between the two parties are ongoing, as Shawn Fain, the president of UAW, has vowed to keep it open around the clock. Kunes added,

?we do have to prepare for all three to be striking at the end of this week.?

According to him, due to supply shortages during the pandemic, dealerships learned a lot.

As per estimates, if UAW runs a strike against the big three, it would result in a decline of 100,000 vehicles each week.

According to Fox Business,

?Although the supply chain issues that plagued the U.S. auto industry due to COVID-19 have eased in the past few years, Kunes said production still is not close to what the industry saw pre-pandemic. If inventory dries up, it can be devastating to dealerships’ operations, their communities and the consumer.?

Kunes also recalled the strike against GM that happened in 2019. He added that since then, when it comes to inventory, GM has not been able to recover and catch up in the market.
