X (Formerly Twitter) Will Start Charging Users $1 Per Year For Key Features
Last Updated on: November 14th, 2024
Elon Musk?s X (formerly known as Twitter) is testing a plan where users will need to pay $1 per year to get access to key features, including the ability to tweet and retweet, reply, like, etc. The change is confirmed in X?s Help Center. The program went live in New Zealand and the Philippines on Tuesday.
The social media platform is coming out with a new program called ?Not a Bot? and is currently running a test version of the program. The platform has already started testing the program in the Philippines and New Zealand as a part of a new trial to access key features. If someone wants to like a post, reply, tweet, or retweet a post, they will need to pay the subscription fee.
However, if someone does not want to subscribe to the plan, they will only be able to see the posts, read them, watch videos, and follow accounts. The goal behind creating this plan, as per the platform, is to
?reduce spam, manipulation of our platform and bot activity.?
Elon Musk stated regarding the plan –
?It?s the only way to fight bots without blocking real users. […] This won?t stop bots completely, but it will be 1000X harder to manipulate the platform.?
Last month, Elon Musk posted on X that the platform is moving to keep a small monthly payment for usage.
