The United Auto Workers (UAW) union surprised Ford by escalating its strike to Ford?s largest factory, where it ordered workers of the company off the job. On the night of October 11 (Wednesday), the union told around 8,700 workers of Ford to strike at the Kentucky Truck Plant. This plant produces some of the most important Ford vehicles.

Shawn Fain, the president of UAW, said to CNN,

?We have been crystal clear, and we have waited long enough, but Ford has not gotten the message. It?s time for a fair contract at Ford and the rest of the Big Three. If they can?t understand that after four weeks, the 8,700 workers shutting down this extremely profitable plant will help them understand it.?

As per sources, the UAW called for a negotiation session with the car manufacturer on Wednesday. Basically, the union expected a different offer than the one that Ford presented before. After the discussion did not prove successful, Shawn Fain decided to expand the strike to the Kentucky Truck Plant.

Fain told the company that he and the top negotiator of the union were not happy with the offer, and it was the same one that the company made to the union a few weeks ago. According to the union officials, the company made the same offer even after assuring that they would make a new economic offer.

By expanding the strike to the Kentucky Truck Plant, the union is targeting a more profitable part of Ford?s line of cars. The vehicles at the Kentucky Truck Plant generate an annual revenue of $25 billion for the company.

The UAW is not only on strike with Ford but also with General Motors and Stellantis. The strike is continuing since September 15.
